Designing my logo
The font I chose is called “Over the Rainbow”. The name stood out to me as much as the font itself. Ever since a double rainbow sighting on September 2019, rainbows have become personally symbolic. Finally beginning a long considered project and finding just the perfect font so named says something to me. Also, the font itself has a certain lightness, playfulness, that I have come to associate with myself.
Pink, the muted, rose pink and pastel variety, has been my favourite colour for as long a I can remember. Pink is soft, feminine, pretty, all the things I want to be, even now. That said, I knew my general theme would have some pink in it. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself drawn to this bright magenta pink, identified only as #EC46C8 instead of my usual. #EC46C8, henceforth “Adel Pink”, is bold, determined, intimidating. I like it. This evolution in my taste in pinks says something to me.
I had no concept when I went in to design my logo only that it had to be recognizably me. I flipped through some sample logo templates for inspiration, nothing stood out but I was too unsure of my skills to begin on a blank page. I picked a basic design template and started with what I knew had to be there, my name and my brand colours, the other elements came later.
I added the black bold lines to bring structure and architecture to the design. It’s also a great contrast. I wanted symmetry, it’s visually appealing, so I arranged what are essentially, two thick-lined black squares into the shape of a T, for Tipora. Can you see it now? I left aligned my name, which I chose to present in white for added contrast and visual interest.
The final product is beyond what I could have envisioned when I started but undeniably representative of who I am, if only because it came from me. All I needed was curiosity, the basics, some inspiration and my creativity to achieve this.
Small victories!
